This painting is about 4 x 5 inches. I painted it for a belated Christmas present for a friend who really likes religious art. Instead of portraying an actual saint, I just started painting and let the randomness happen, as many of these kinds of religious icons are found among everyday things. This is kind of unusual for me, as normally I like to have some idea of where a project is going. But I figured my friend would appreciate my willingness to let the creativity flow and make up the meaning later.

Project 1: Cowboy Cookies
I thought it would be fun to embark on what's called a Project 52 this year. One project a week to keep me crafting.
I think it's extremely important to create. Some religions consider the act of creation a prayer, or communion with God. It's a way to get your mind to stop spinning and listen to something higher and quieter. To be a blank canvas for new ideas to spring forth. Unfortunately it's easy to put this on the back burner in our hectic lives, and sometimes I actually forget to create. So while I'm not the best at setting goals or actually finishing things, I'm going to give this a shot!
So here's Project 1. Cowboy cookies!
I've recently been inspired to start decorating cookies, and have been particularly inspired by The Sweet Adventures of SugarBelle, a great blog about, what else, cookies. I've found a number of amazing blogs out there, and use the University of Cookie to learn all kinds of new things.
Thanks to Callye of SugarBelle (from whom I've lovinglystolen borrowed, purely for educational purposes), and all the amazing contributors to U of C!
